"It’s been 25 years since Fight Club—and therefore also The Matrix. What a year for films about how terrible it is to work in an office." Don't forget Office Space, also released in 99. A sort of American Ealing Comedy for GenX nerds, featuring one of cinema's greatest middle managers. Yeah, I'm gonna go right ahead and ask you to watch it this weekend.
I liked the interview about the Atlantic, especially the bit about profitability as a byproduct of success. So much journalism in the UK now (especially local newspapers) is about profit before quality and that's a recipe for failure.
I love The Atlantic, but when I tried to tighten my budget and unsubscribe I found out there was no way to do it. Six months after I started their unsubscribe process was when they finally allowed me to stop paying them. I'll be curious to see how the new US unsubscribe laws affect their numbers.
You’d think those wise sages at Oxford would have learned from the Labour Party changing its rules for the leadership vote and of course the Boaty McBoatface fiasco, never open your votes to all.
I think that you’re assuming the dons of Oxford would have been sufficiently online to respond “lol nope 🤪” to whoever suggested opening it to everyone. Instead I’m imagining the discussion being carried out in cod Latin (which maybe would be a better entry requirement).
“Michigan has poured roughly a quarter of a billion dollars into D.E.I. since 2016”
That’s the key sentence isn’t it, the make work class of administrators and HR professionals have gone beyond inventing ever more pointless tasks to waste the time of actually useful employees as a way to justify their existence, to actually now fully cashing in and extending the rort to the consultant and outside agency groups. One thing about when you move from a manufacturing to service based economy, the scammers find ever more creative ways to cash in

I loved the Budget game. Can we have more such games in future, please.
I will keep an eye out. . .
You bastard! I have measured out my life in word games. This one is both creative and compelling. Grrr!

That was what I was riffing on!
